At 8 years old Jonathan was not happy to be taken away from his native Golden Bay to live elsewhere. Elsewhere met every expectation that it wouldn’t be as good but it has taken him 32 years to return to the Nelson region by way of rural North Canterbury, the Manawatu, Christchurch and Auckland. He feels he has learned his lesson now.
Jonathan played inconsistent but enthusiastic rugby from an early age until he was old enough to hear his body’s insistent demand that he retire. Similar demands have been made and ignored in relation to inconsistent but enthusiastic cricket, tennis and golf. He is active behind the scenes in the Nelson Rugby Football Club, Nelson Bays and the Tasman Mako B rugby teams. He loves reading, drawing, pub quizzes, a game of darts and a wrestle with the cryptic crossword. He is the co-author of Bartlett and Corfe’s Great Kiwi Pub Crawl and is currently writing his second book, Horrible People.
He lives with his partner, Katie, and his parrot, Beyoncé.
Jonathan was a former regular force soldier (RNZE) but got tired of dressing like a tree and being rained on professionally. While working in the hospitality and liquor industries he graduated from the University of Canterbury with an LL.B in 2013. When an opportunity to take up a legal career and to return to his beloved home town arose Jonathan grasped it with both hands and is now part of our commercial team headed up by Gary Stocker. Jonathan is busily cutting his teeth on commercial sale and purchases, financing, leases and contracts.
“Every day I love Nelson just a little bit more.”
