With three boys, it is no surprise that Gerard’s life outside of work is very much centred on family and his boys’ sporting activities. As such, you will find him on various sporting fields around Nelson or even out on the marina. At summer, holiday time, you probably will not find him at all because they have all gone camping.
After work hours, Gerard can also be found at times playing with power tools in his own version of home improvements. When in the office, he is our Litigation partner specialising in civil litigation, employment and resource management. He also assists clients with property relationship issues and estate litigation.
Gerard joined Knapps in 2003 after spending 11 years with Wellington city law firm, Rainey Collins. He was made a partner at Knapps in 2006.
He believes the success of Knapps is down to the genuine desire of staff to help clients and which is done with a great deal of empathy. This is reinforced by the informal and down to earth culture of the firm which he believes instantly removes barriers and makes clients feel comfortable.
In 2016, Gerard was appointed President of the Nelson branch of the New Zealand Law Society. Gerard is also a member of the committee organising the Resource Management Law Association which is holding its 2016 conference in Nelson this year.
