To say Colenna started at the bottom and worked her way up sounds an odd thing to say but that is exactly what she has done. Her foray into law saw her start out as a legal secretary when she was only 20 years of age! She then took over running the firm’s trust and office accounts which has given her a solid background in balancing client’s trust ledgers and appreciation of most jobs in a law firm!
Colenna then decided to study for her legal executive qualification which she gained in 2003. Shortly thereafter Colenna fled our shores for the mandatory OE but on her return worked as a legal executive for 5 years in the practice area of residential conveyancing whilst studying for a law degree. She graduated from the University of Canterbury in 2012 not with one degree but two – both a LLB and a BSC in psychology – a useful combination some would say!
Her working life as a solicitor has been based in Christchurch where she has built up a speciality in subdivision work including acting for large property developer clients in the South Island and general commercial work. She also has experience in trusts and succession planning, and conveyancing.
The move to Nelson in 2019 was prompted by a growing young family and the quest for a more balanced lifestyle and the climate and environment that only Nelson can offer. Colenna’s spare time is naturally spent with her young family and supporting her husband in his work as a volunteer fireman. Between juggling work and family, Colenna loves getting out amongst nature and walking with Maggie – the family’s border collie/whippet cross.
